Das Buch hört sich wirklich spannend (habe es bei Audible gekauft) und viele der Tips konnte ich bereits umsetzen. Ein Beispiel: Sie fahren in eine Straße mit ca 100 Parkplätzen, Ihr Ziel ist am Ende der Straße. Welchen Parkplatz sollten Sie wählen? Die Antwort verblüfft: fahren Sie an ca 36 Parkplätzen vorbei und nehmen dann den nächsten freien. Dies funktioniert wohl auch, wenn Sie einen persönlichen Assistenten einstellen wollen und 100 Bewerbungen auf dem Tisch haben. Schauen Sie sich die ersten 36 Bewerber an, ohne einen davon zu nehmen. Den nächsten Bewerber, der besser ist, als alle bisherigen, nehmen Sie. Zumindest mit Parkplätzen konnte ich gute Erfahrungen sammeln. Sollte ich einmal einen persönlichen Assistenten brauchen, werde ich über das Ergebnis berichten.Auch der Gegensatz "Explore/Exploit" ist sehr erhellend. Wer 80 Jahre alt ist und seit 50 Jahren in der Stadt wohnt, wird möglicherweise nicht das soeben eröffnete Restaurant testen, wenn er 15 andere kennt, die wirklich gut sind. Aus der anderen Seite wird ein neu zugezogener 22 Jahre gut daran tun, erstmal viele Restaurants zu testen, damit er mit der Zeit einen Erfahrungsschatz aufbaut (explore), den er dann später einmal ausnutzen (exploit) kann.Ich habe mich allerdings gefragt, ob ein Nicht-Informatiker ebensoviel Spaß an dem Buch haben wird, weil ihm viele Aha-Erlebnisse fehlen dürften.
Mathematische Algorithmen die praktische Lebensfragen lösen!? Nach der Lektüre ist man schlauer. Überzeugend geschrieben, gute Englischkenntnisse und mathematisches Grundverständnis sind allerdings hilfreich.
It has some very interesting facts and points but it could be half this long and you would still get the same out of it. The author keeps repeating himself a lot and sometimes doesn't really get to a point or you can't really see how you could apply the principle in real life. And from the title ths is what I tought it would be like.
The book is good and gives some pretty nice ideas and insights into how someone can do about their lives and decisions. However, as a person with engineering background and some minor understanding of psychology I've found several things in the book far-fetched or applicable to a very limited set of areas which makes the book just a good read rather than something that will really change how you think about things.
Excellent book with advice that is backed by science and data, not feel good anecdotal impressions like other similar books. Highly recommended.
I was doing software engeneering / CS / algorithms / machine learning for several years now and the beginning of the book was quite boring for me, but then the examples which I did not know started and...I spend every evening reading this book.
I absolutely love this book. I am studying math, but I can assure you that even when you have little mathematical background you will understand everything in the book. The book shows the real life applications for some mathematical algorithms used by computer scientist.
